Name of Adobe software needed to convert a PDF file to become searchable as well as editable?

If you are referring to make the text on PDF to be recognized and edited, you will need Adobe Acrobat DC application for that.

I have an older Mac OS X Version 10.6.8 and assume that the Acrobat Pro DC

or the Standard software package would not work on this operating system. Is

there an alternative?

Yes, Adobe Acrobat DC is not compatible with Mac OS 10.6.8 version.
