Can't sign agreement after recipient has signed it

Community Beginner ,
Sep 20, 2017 Sep 20, 2017

Hello!

I'm totally new to Adobe Sign, and finally learned how to send out my first document to get signed. I left a blank line in the document for both the recipient and myself, but I didn't know to select "Add Me" beforehand, so I could sign it, too. The recipient signed the document, which I've since received. And, I don't see a way to include my signature to sign it. Is there a way to sign the document after the recipient has signed?

Thanks!

Thank you for your quick response and suggestion, Michael! That's definitely an option.

Earlier today, I actually found a workaround:

  1. I downloaded the agreement the recipient had signed.
  2. I went to the Dashboard.
  3. Went to Additional Functions > Fill & Sign.
  4. Uploaded the previously signed agreement in the Drag & Drop section > Next.
  5. Entered my signature on the next screen, and done!

I was able to save a copy of the agreement with both signatures to my desktop.

You will have to create a new agreement for you both to sign.

You have signed the new pdf, but you don’t have a document that contains a chain of certification of both signatures.

Hi Michael,

I noticed that when doing it correctly now, that, yes, it does take my signature, and there is a list/chain of certification of both signatures, but I notice my signature doesn't receive a time stamp, like the other signer. Is this to be expected?

Thanks for your feedback,

Margarita

Are your asking for a time stamp on the document or in an audit document? I am on my iPad, but when I sign it generally only gives the date but I can add a time or date signed field on the document if needed.

Hi Michael,

Yes, I'm talking about a time stamp on the document under the signer's signature, not as a separate box. I only ask because when the other signer signs their name, I see a date and time stamp directly underneath their name. Not because I created a date/time field, but as part of their signature.

Do I, the person who created the document, also receive that same date/time stamp underneath my name once I sign? I have not seen that so far. I don't necessarily need the date and time stamp, but I thought perhaps something went wrong, since I didn't get that stamp, but the other signer did.

I'm not sure what an audit document is.

Thanks!

Margarita

When I get to a computer I'll check. I have an Enterprise account, The audit report lists when the document was sent, when it was viewed, when it was signed, what date, time, and IP address, etc.

On my account, I never get a time only date on anyone's signature . This's may be a configurable option about whether a time shows on the signature. If you look at the history tab, that is where my audit report option is shown.

The appearance of a signature on the signed document will be different depending on what sort of signature appearance is used by the signer.

A 'regular' signature where the date is shown under a blue line, happens when the signer types their name and Adobe sign uses a cursive font to give it a signature feel.

if you use an image of a handwritten signature, or draw one on the spot, then the signature appearance will just show that image/drawing without a blue underline and date.

So if you want a date to show ensure to add a date field to the agreement as well as a signature field.

Hi Simon,

Thanks for your response! What you say makes sense, particularly because I have a scanned image of my signature that I've been using. So, since I'm not typing in my signature in Adobe's cursive font, I won't be getting a date of signature under the blue line. Looks like I can just delete my scanned signature if I'd like to type in my signature, in the future, to get the date stamp under my name for future documents?

Thanks,

Margarita

You could do that if you don't mind losing your scanned signature image, or indeed add a separate date field below the signature field.

Hi Simon,

I was able to delete my scanned signature image, and just typed in my cursive signature, and the date stamp was there! I appreciate your assistance with the options.

Thank you,

Margarita

Hi Michael,

Thanks for the explanation! That's right, I only meant the date stamp, not time stamp.

Thanks,

Margarita
