How can I sign a document? - Tools/Fill&Sign lets me highlight the signature panel, but the Sign icon is grayed out and inoperable. I knew how to do this in Acrobat 9.

Hello Michael,
Can you share the steps you are taking while signing the document? Are you using Acrobat or Adobe Reader DC?

I am using Acrobat Pro DC
I open the document to sign. I click on “Tools” in the menu bar. I then click on the icon for “Fill & Sign”. I then click on “Signature Panel” and draw the desired signature panel. The icon for “sign” is still grayed out and I was never able to figure out how to sign via this sequence (I tried using the cursor to sign my name in the box that I drew and that did not work).
Subsequently, after a long break to do other things and then some more digging, I clicked on “Tools” in the menu bar. I then clicked on the icon for “Certificates”. That brought up a panel that allowed me to choose between my typed digital signature with Adobe certification and a hand-written signature (scanned previously) with the Adobe certification. This worked fine, but the route is not the obvious one to sign the document.
Thanks for any comments, but I have ultimately solved my problem.

I have the same issue, as do many others on the forums I see. It is unfortunate that this question about very basic and fundamental functionality has been left open for a year without staff response.
I've uninstalled with the cleaner tool and reinstalled the latest version of Reader DC. I've made sure to sign in. I still cannot sign a document. This is especially frustrating as Adobe has taken away support for Linux and that the document I'm trying to sign says it's incompatible with the Android version of reader as well. I finally find a Windows computer, go through all of this install and reinstall, and I still cannot do something so essential as sign a document. It does not make me want to recommend my institutions pay for Adobe software.

I had a the same problem and it appears that my anti-virus was preventing this capability. I change virus programs after running into some other problems and it appears to have resolved this issue as well. Not sure of "causation", but just noting my experience.
