Using Text Tags Syntax in Templates to be used with Salesforce Merge Fields

Hello,

  I've created a template using the text tags {{amount}}, and created the merge fields mapping.  When I use the tag as shown, the field maps over.  But, utilizing Adobe Text Tag guide, I would assume that I can use {{amount:curr}} or 

{{amount:signer1:curr(country=us)}}

and it would then use the currency operator. None of these "extra" features are working when i mege the document. 

Is there a certain "trick" to make these fielsd work?
