The bin icon is probably dimmed because your project has one page. The bin icon is no longer highlighted when you have multiple pages in your project.
To delete a project, go to "Your stuff" on the left side, then click on the three dots on the top right corner of the project. A drop-down menu will appear, and you can select Delete at the bottom.
