file corrupts after splitting

Unable to edit for 2 days any time I split a file one half corrupts or both splits corrupt and there isn't any audio.

During splitting scene the white background has kept left over audio. It was very hard to figure out. I had to delete the footage and was able to see a white background with one word on audio. I thought it was from the footage I was editing and kept going back and forth trying to delete this audio. This happened twice as I had a long 3 minute scene that I had to edit into smaller pieces due to mistakes I made or things I didn't like. so heads up.
