Attempting Portfolio Basics

New Here ,
Apr 08, 2023 Apr 08, 2023

I’ve been trying to build my personal portfolio site with your web page template (and other templates) but none of the features work as they’re likely intended to be used. For example, I was simply looking to add a Looking to logo of my name. Here are the steps I took  in attempting to make something this simple:

  1. In the Web Page template, header only allows text and no navigation options
  2. Opened a separate project to build a logo of my name
  3. Project had one text layer and two shape layers (line)
  4. When using the Animate feature (typewriter, scatter) the effect only changes text with my name
  5. Duplicated page to create separate animation for shape (line)
  6. Discovered only text/images are allowed to be animated, per google.
  7. As a workaround, I attempted  to create MP4 file of text-only animation
  8. Video section of web page template only allows for URLs
  9. Published animated text to adobe express URL
  10. Error shows when attempting to enter https://express.adobe.com/post/xjKbk8B8Mx0eY/
  11. Gave up on animation to use static image
  12. header only allows full-width placement and no navigation options
  13. Switched to attempt adding static photo to body of page
  14. Too much white space separates around the image and only options are to make full-width or window-size
  15. This cut off elements of the logo/image
  16. Giving up on my name, I attempted to add a different image of a portfolio example in the body of the page
  17. The image was cut off from top and bottom
  18. Then attempted  to add a focal point (which I thought was to Parallax scrolling element to eventually show full image), the effect didn’t do anything other than force image to be larger than the container.

As most of us do, most of my frustrations led to google searches. As a marketer, I love Adobe’s work on SEO with a beautiful looking page about Express having a “Free animated logo maker”. Unfortunately, when doing through the steps in this portal, there was no animation option at the end.

I use Adobe Experience Manager for my 9-5 and Express has been much more of a hassle. As I attempt to stand out in this rough job market, I’ve spent good money on months' worth of the subscription to Express. While I’d love my money back, there have to be easier ways to achieve these design basics.

Has anyone else run into anything similar?

Hi @Madams07

I'm sorry the web page creation feature within Adobe Express wasn't a good fit for what you had in mind. The ability to create web pages is just one of the many potential uses for the product. The web page creation options are meant to be simple and easy to use but the features are somewhat limited. All of the things you mentioned make sense to me and are indeed limitations or areas which could be improved. The product is still being developed so hopefully some of the things you mention will improve.

This portion of the product User Guide goes over the feature

If you recently purchased your membership to Adobe Express and creating a web page was your primary purpose for doing so I'd suggest contacting our customer service and explaining what happened. Maybe they can assist you with a refund. If you have a full Creative Cloud membership one of the services included is Adobe Portfolio. I'm not sure if this is closer to what you had in mind but wanted to share the info in case it's helpful.
