Text editing with colors and forms - am I stupid?

So I'm quite the beginner here. I have used Express for 2 months but can't seem to figure this one out. I can't imagine it can't be done but I am lost.

So I have a picture and I want to write a text in the center. However I need to follow a some "graphical guidelines" and highligt some words in the text with a different text color and a form. When I do try to that the whole text changes, not just the words I have marked. Up to this point I have used several "text boxes", sometimes one for every word, just to be able to have different colors and forms for certain words in a sentence.

There must be an easier way, right?

To be a bit more clear, see attached images. I did figure out how to change color on some text in a sentence, but not how to apply only one word with a form.

I want to be able to write like in "Image 1" in one text box, but to do that i seem to have to use more than one letter box?

Unfortunately yes I do think you'd need to make a separate shape if you only want to highlight individual words. A quick workflow would be to group a text layer and a rectangle of the desired font/size/shape together. Then copy/paste the group and edit the text. You can also use the Align tools to align the text layer with the rectangle.

Sorry if this is overkill, but since you said you were new to Express I went ahead and recorded a quick screen recording of what I was describing, since I happen to be at my desktop and it took just a moment. Hope this helps!

How I managed not to think about doing it that way is beyond me. Thank you so much!
