Hi,

Recently I have been experiencing errors with Adobe fonts. "A font could not be added due to a conflict". The problem is that I have LOTS of Adobe fonts that have this issue. But the most annoying is the font, Open Sans that I need for a project. Not all font versions have the same issues. Just the Bold Italic, Bold, Italic, Light, and Light Italic.

I have Windows 11. All applications including the Windows 11 are up-to-date.

I removed the entire OPEN SANS font family. I logged out from Creative Cloud. I restarted the computer, logged in to CC, and tried a fresh install of the Open Sans font family. I received the same error message on the same variations of the Open Sans.

I can see the entire Open Sans font family in Windows fonts. But I cannot access Bold, Italic, Bold Italic, Light, and Light Italic in MS Word as well.

I cannot replace the font in the project just because Adobe has issues installing some fonts.

Thank you in advance.

I fix it.

1. Uninstall fonts from CC.

2. Logged out from CC. Not sure it is of any help, but I did it.

3. Uninstall fonts from Windows using Setting - Personalization - Fonts - select OPEN SANS - click Uninstall.

4. Restart the computer.

5. Logged in to CC, and installed OPEN SANS font family. All are installed without any error.

Thank you.

Yeah, I wouldn't recommend having duplicates of the same type family running on a computer. Adding a type family at Adobe Fonts when there are already font files of the same family installed directly in the computer's operating system would be asking for conflicts. On top of that, I've encountered technical issues with type families at Google Fonts from time to time. Sometimes the version hosted at Adobe Fonts works better than the one that can be downloaded from Google Fonts. Or vice versa.

Hi Bobby,

Just when I thought I had fixed the font issues I discovered that I did not, I am talking about the same Oen Sans font. I opened an InDesign project from the same client. InDesign reported three missing fonts: Open Sans Bold, Open Sans Bold Italic, and Open Sans Semibold.

I opened the font menu in InDesign. It shows that I have ten Open Sans fonts. I could not find Bold, and Bold Italic. However, the Semibold font is present but InDesign says it is missing.

So, I opened CC and went to fonts; all fonts are fine. No errors. Bold, Bold Italic are installed and they also have a green check mark.

I am completely lost.

Any suggestion?

If you are syncing the Open Sans type family from Adobe Fonts make sure you don't have other copies of Open Sans installed in the operating system, such as Windows' fonts folder.

Do you have any third party font management applications running? I'm mentioning this because of another strange issue I have seen. CorelDRAW has a built-in font management application. I'll use CorelDRAW in addition to Illustrator since lots of sign makers have CorelDRAW in their design tool kits. If I have CorelDRAW running in the background I'll see one, two or more fonts in certain type families disappear from the font menu in Adobe Illustrator. If I close down both applications and then re-launch Illustrator the missing fonts will be restored. I've been able to re-create this glitch on multiple computers. It's definitely a real bug.

I am working on Windows 11. I do not have any font management app except Windows - Fonts. I am not using CorelDraw. Just MS Office and Adobe applications (InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator), and FrameMaker. I see those fonts missing in Illustrator as well.

Have you tried clearing Windows' font cache? It's possible for that data file to get corrupted over time. Deleting it and forcing Windows to re-build it could clear up some issues:
