May I use a font for an installation artwork for an artist that we work with? Or must the artist purchase the font herself? The installation itself is also for sale.

Can you be more specific about how you're using the font? An installation could mean almost anything.
For details, see Adobe Font Licensing and Terms of Use below.

hello nancy...
in this particular case it is a illuminated sign or a sentence of neon letters. it is to be installed outside for an exhibition and is about 6 meters wide.

What confuses us is you ask whether YOU can use the font ("May I use the font"). Yet you are not the artist. You can certainly use it in your own art work, or in art work you make for inclusion in another art work. If you are asking whether you can give the font to the artist, for the artist to use, the answer is no.

it's a bit complicated: as a graphic designer, i create the artwork on behalf of the artist, since he otherwise doesn't work digitally. the artist, however, sells the work under his name.

I see what you mean. Is the artwork sold in a digital form, or as a made object?
