We're having a couple issues/irregularities with Source Sans 3 and how it is behaving within microsoft before deploying across our organization.
I'm hoping this community may help validate with same experiences or point us down a path of resolution.
Has anyone else seen duplicate instances of styles showing up in font menu from within Powerpoint? (see attached)
We've done clean removals and installs. We're seeing this appear with starting new files, as well as templates that have fonts embedded.

Adding also that we're currently testing with a variable font file for both the roman and italic sets. And will shift to trial with the static files for each weight to see the same occurs.

I think we have resolved to an issue with the variable font files not playing well with microsoft. And some of the duplicates experienced were the ones coming through Adobe Create Cloud > Fonts. Those are now removed and we put the individual, static files into font book the old fashioned way.
Separately, does anyone else get a weird 'double bold' in the name for bold italic?

Were these copies of Source Sans 3 added/installed via Adobe Fonts or were they downloaded from the Google Fonts web site?
I've seen a number of strange issues during the past few years with certain type families from Google Fonts. The fonts (usually) behave properly in Adobe's applications. I've seen more technical problems with these fonts other rival graphics applications. Some styles would be missing or be substituted with a default system font (Arial usually). Sometimes the entire family would only render in previews as Arial.
Usually if a certain type family was available at both Google Fonts and Adobe Fonts the version at Adobe Fonts would behave properly. The situation has been improving. I've gone back to Google Fonts and downloaded certain type families again and found the technical problems to be fixed. But some type families remain buggy.

Thanks Bobby
We're having major weirdness on getting these installed on Windows.
I'm told the original files came from Adobe, but honestly I don't see where they could be downloaded anywhere (would negate the font management in the cloud)... I'm now suspecting they came from a Google Font download.
Anyone have Paul D. Hunt's email address so I can ask him directly or know who to contact at Adobe to understand how I obtain a clean copy with embeddable licensing?
This is supposed to be an open source font after all.

The problem can be narrowed down between computers that have an Adobe Creative Cloud subscription installed on them (and access to Adobe Fonts) and other computers who don't have Adobe CC access. The ones using Source Sans 3 without CC access would have to be using copies of the fonts downloaded from Google or other free fonts web sites (such as Font Squirrel).
In a big organization it's possible multiple version builds of Source Sans 3 could be floating around. From time to time I've gone back to Google Fonts and downloaded "fresh" versions of type families that were exhibiting technical problems. The current build of Source Sans 3 Variable that I'm using seems to be working alright. If multiple computer users have the same type family it's important for them to be working from the same build of it rather than a mix and newer and older versions.
