Does anyone know the history behind the creation of the Kepler font (https://fonts.adobe.com/fonts/kepler). What were the artists's inspirations when creating it? What kind of font it would be categorized as?

A better forum to ask in might be the Adobe Fonts forum:

The font was created by Robert Slimbach, a long-time font designer who now heads up Adobe's type design program. Posting the question on the font forum (suggested by Steve above) will probably get a response from Robert. Robert Slimbach | Adobe Fonts

Kepler originated as a Multiple Master font, which probably explains why there are so many instances available over at Adobe Fonts. My old multiple master postscript version still works, but  unfortunately there's no longer a way to generate new instances in OSX. The Multiple Master technology is being revived as variable fonts, but I don‘t think there is support yet with InDesign—I’m sure you can get the latest over in the fonts forum.
