Deleting Content From the Content Library (Captivate Prime)

New Here ,
Aug 03, 2017 Aug 03, 2017

I am logged in as Author.

I go to the content library tab. I want to delete content that I do not need anymore.

I cannot find a way to do this. There is surprising no delete option.

Hi Nicholasm.

You are correct. Learning content (a.k.a., modules) cannot be deleted.

IF, the content has already been included in a course, YOU CAN delete it from the course.

Realizing this is not your doing, Thomas, but the lack of a delete option for content is surprising.  How do organizations deal with versioning of their content or (like me right now) just starting to learn the platform and wanting to get rid of test files?  Would love to see a delete option added on the Content Library.

I believe I read they are providing this feature in the next update, if I am understanding this correctly.

Hi MikeC-UNC

I understand your frustrations.

I dealt with the same thing when I first got started.

Maybe some day, that functionality will be programmed.

Right now, this would be your workflow.

Things you can do at the course level:

  • If you no longer want the course displayed in the course catalog the learners see, Retire the course.
  • 1...Retiring the course, in effect, "deletes" it from the learners' view
  • If you want most of the course, but not all, discard parts of it...
  • 1...Retire course (removes it from catalog)
  • 2...Duplicate retired course, modify as needed, and republish course.

Regarding "versioning" at the course and module level:

  • If versioning is a concern, at the course level you have different options to address, examples include:
  • 1...Different catalogs (and put newer course version in the new catalog, then publish the catalog)
  • 2...Once course is retired, you could use the technique mentioned above (to retire a course) and for posterity re-label it v1 or some other naming convention that suits you; then publish new modified course
  • On the module level, versioning happens automatically, when you re-upload the newer version of the content (module) - once in the course (Prime prompts the admin to update the module content).

I hear your frustrations loud and clear, because I felt the same way getting starting at the beginning of 2016. But, I hope the above at least sheds light on the options you have.

Feel free to ping me any time. I'll gladly share my experience with Adobe Captivate Prime thus far.

Regards,

Thomas H.

Hi. This is a big surprise to me. As we test features of Captivate Prime, we need to be able to undo and delete steps we take. When can a delete content feature be included?

Kind regards,

Drew

Just an update to help out anyone dealing with this. You can actually edit any of the modules you uploaded and that means updating the module file as well. Think of the Content Library as profiles that can change. Change the name, the file, tags, etc. So, if you screw up and need to remove content, the best thing you can do is just replace what's in the module 'profile.' I suppose the drawback is having uploaded several that need replacing but you don't have content to use. in that case, I've renamed the module to DELETE so that when/if this feature becomes available I can swiftly identify and delete them.

As another side note, I also noticed that there is no filtering, so if you are renaming the items, rename them so they end up at the top of the list so they are easy to find once "DELETE" gets enabled.

Hi,

In our latest release, we have added the option to retire modules from the course catalog.

Once you retire the module, it will be no longer in the published section of the course catalog.

The latest release is live now, you can click on the module that you to remove from the course catalog and click on actions and then select retire and module will no longer be in the published section of the course catalog.

I hope this helps!

Have a great day!

And - after Retiring the content you can now choose to DELETE it! (I named modules I wanted to delete 'Delete' to make them easy to find later.).

Select the check box next to the Retired piece of content. Then select 'Actions' at top-right and 'Delete'.
