How Do I Create New/Custom Domains?

Community Beginner ,

Hello all,

I am creating a course on Special Education and would like to map skills to a skill domain.  Currently Captivate Prime only lists the following domains:

  • Supply chain management
  • Accounting
  • Scientific research and engineering
  • Computer security
  • Strategic management
  • Social media
  • Medicine
  • Finance
  • Workplace safety
  • Soft skills
  • Business law
  • Management
  • Human resource management
  • Technical communication
  • Business ethics
  • Customer relationship management
  • Information technology
  • Production and manufacturing
  • Marketing
  • Quality management
  • Business process
  • Learning
  • Design
  • Analytics
  • Sales

A part from "Learning" domain none of these domain skills are a good representation of this professional development course relating to Special Education.  I want to create several domains relating to national guidelines and standards for special education however the tool doesn't seem to have this capability.  Does anyone know a work around or whether this functionality will be coming out in a new release?

Kind regards,
Matt Schneider

Hi @MattySchnides,

Thank you for contacting Adobe Captivate Prime Team.

Currently adding new skill domain is not allowed in Prime. I understand your request and I will try my best to get it sorted for you.

Kindly share the list of the Skill Domains you want to add to Prime. I will request the product team to review the details and add them to Prime as soon as possible.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Hello @Debiprasad_Maharana,

Though I appreciate the kind offer to add my specific skills to Captivate Prime, I do not think simply adding my goals to the list already available will add much value to the end user.  What I was hoping for was a reimagnining of the Skill section.  Instead of selecting pre-defined skills that come standard with every instance of Adobe Captivate Prime I would like to see functionality added so that the administrators of Captivate Prime can take this functionality and make it relevant to their individual needs.  For example could we possibly have three levels of goals/skills and have the administrators fill in the skill or goal at each level for their specific use case?

To illustrate my point, I could see if Captivate Prime was used in a higher education setting you would want to create a set of Institutional Goals\Skills (i.e. Demonstrate Critical Thinking).  This goal/skill could then be related to one or more specific goals used in multiple courses offered across the Institution (i.e. Engineering, English Literature, Biology, etc).  The critical thinking skills are measured and demonstrated differently in each of the various courses but the goal itself reamains constant.  Building on this premise, these course level goals could then be aligned to module level goals/learning objectivess.  For my case, I would like to input various national guidelines and standards for special education (as my level 1 goal/skill) to specific goals/skills at the course level (level 2 goal/skill) and then align those course skills to skills at the module level (level 3 goal/skill).  Additionally, I could see that adding these skills to various course assignments, discussions, quiz or survey questions or content within the course would be a great feature enhancements.  Your end users would have a better way to report out the effectiveness of their programs and curriculum if a report could be generated that maps out these three levels of skills/goals and what assessments help to students demonstrate their competency of those goals/skills.

Kind regards,

Matt Schneider
