AME on new Mac Studio renders only slightly faster than 2017 iMac

I sure hope this is an Adobe software issue...

I just got my new Mac Studio today: M1 Max, 32GB RAM. Ran a render of an After Effects project using AME, with the Match Source, High Bitrate preset (1080p, H.264, VBR 1-pass 10Gbps). Render time was 13:36.

Compare with my render time on my 2017 iMac Core i7: 14:44.

So...that's NOT a great improvement. Is this an area where Adobe has not optimized for the M1 chip?

Are you using the current version of After Effects or the beta?  Right now, only the AE beta is Apple silicon native.

Current version, not beta. I'll see if I can get the beta!

Information about how to use Creative Cloud beta applications is here: https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/creative-cloud-beta.html. The summary of that article is:

1. Beta apps are available from the "Beta Apps" section of the Creative Cloud Desktop app.

2. Beta apps are designed to be installed alongside release apps - it's completely safe to have both installed. However...

3. Beta apps are unfinished and should not be relied upon for critical work.

Fergus

Result of same render using AEbeta 24.4.0(build 14): 8:50.

That's an improvement! Requires only 60% as much time as on my old iMac.

Go Adobe!

We're getting close to After Effects on Apple silicon coming out of beta.

For those keeping an eye on this, John Colombo's Adobe blog is worth following:

https://community.adobe.com/t5/after-effects-beta-discussions/after-effects-beta-now-on-apple-silico...

The early word on After Effects and the M1 Ultra is "fast".

From my perspective the struggles are found in Media Encoder, not After Effects. Will shifting to the Media Encoder Beta help AME render times?

Or is it the Media Encoder beta that will help that?

Updated AE and AME, got the AME Beta, now seeing long render times in AME before crashing entirely. Sigh.
