Can Install and use the newest media encoder version without overwriting the old one?

I'd like to try out some of the codecs my current version does not support, but would like to be able to go back to what I'm using if it doesn't work out. Will After Effects see both versions and allow to to choose which one I want to use when I export to Media Encoder? Thanks in adcance for your reply.

you can when going from one major release to another major release. eg. from 13.x to 14.x

cou can't when going from sub version to another subversion. e.g 14.6 to 14.7
