I'm on a Monterey 12.1 macbook pro I need for work and if I want to make an alpha export it seems impossible on this thing. Is there any fix for this?

When I drag he comp into AME I get this:

Encoding Failed

Could not read from the source. Please check if it has moved or been deleted.

Try using the After Effects Render Queue.  If you're running the most recent version of After Effects, choose the "High Quality with Alpha" Render Settings template to get ProRes 4444 with alpha.  If you're running a previous version, choose the "Lossless with Alpha" Render Settings template and then change the Format Options from Animation to Apple ProRes 4444.

I think the macOS Monterey 12.4 update just dropped this week.  Might be worth updating that as well - although, if your MacBook Pro seems otherwise stable, maybe don't.
