I am working with a media partner looking to remove all project workfiles AWAY from the local design machines and onto a shared network SAN with fairly comprehensive network connectivity (10GB) and decent disks on the storage array.
Our performance for Adobe Media Encoder when files are local to the system is ideal as the user has CPU/RAM and DISK all the the same bus (only using SATA drives).
However, when we move the files away from the work machines and onto the network - what will the impact be to us? Has anyone tried this and noticed considerable performance troughs?
Equally so, how does Media Encoder actually handle working on files, when opening a file from another network location, does Media Encoder copy that into the local work systems RAM/Cache - OR - does it keep the file on the server and simply send the read/writes back and forth?
