When I'm using After effects and trying to render with Encoder, cpu usage is only going up to 20-30%. (Before when I used Encoder CC 2017 everything was good, and CPU usage was 100%)

Video settings:

1080p, 30fps, H.264, length~5min

Specs: intel i7-4720HQ, 16gt ram, gtx960m, windows 10

Hi mihaeld79163703,

What is the format/codec of your source footage?

What are your export settings? (Attach a screenshot of the export settings)

What all effects (including 3rd party effects) are you using in this project?

Thanks,

Kulpreet Singh

Sorry for this delay, I am waiting for a response from our engineering Team.

Meanwhile, please run a small test:

Check for the CPU utilization again (keeping Use Maximum Render Quality checked).

Hi MihaelD,

From what engineering has told me, CPU usage when encoding can vary wildly depending on the various circumstances of the file.

What are some of these circumstances?

  • Different codecs react to CPU processing at varying levels
  • Various effects, including third-party effects
  • Offloading of processes by GPU acceleration:
    • scaling
    • GPU-accelerated effects
    • color space differences
    • pixel aspect ratio differences
  • Whether or not the GPU is enabled

I hope that helps explain the situation a bit better.

Thanks,
Kevin
