Rendering Disconnects Parent Hard-Drive

Hi,

I'm trying to finally render out a large project, the project file is ~4.5mb and the final render is about 45 minutes long, and have run into an issue. When Media Encoder gets about 1/3 the way through the rendering process, my hard drive disconnects, ending the render prematurely.

Possibly Relevant information:

Premiere Pro and Media Encoder are installed in and run off of an SSD that I use for my main Drive (C:).

The project file, the data, and the file destination are all on a 4TB HDD, Drive (E:).

My hardware is:

Processor: Intel Core i7-6700 CPU @ 3.40GHz / 3.41Ghz

RAM: 32.0 GB DDR4

System: 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor.

Windows 10 Home.

I am really not sure of how to proceed, but I'm going to try to restart my computer and render it to my (C:) drive to see if that helps, because after i restart my computer the drive is mounted again, it's just that Premiere or Media Encoder somehow forces it to dismount mid-render.

I had considered the possibility that the render was overtaxing the hard drive, but to be quite frank the data usage was coming in at about half my hard drive's read/write speed (HDD, not SSD).

Is this a sign I need a new Hard Drive? or simply a limitation of Premiere/ AME, that I can't render that large of project files?

I'll edit this/make a reply post if the render succeeds, but I'm leaving this up in case anyone else has the issue/ knows what the issue is.

Edit: project file size.

Is the destination drive internal or external?

How is it connected?

I wonder if it could be a failing power supply for the drive?

The destination drive was a secondary internal drive, connected via  Sata cable to the motherboard.

I don't think the power supply was failing as my computer suffered no other problems.

As an update, I was able to render it out to the SSD without the drive crashing, although I would still like to know /why/ it failed to begin with.
