I cannot see how to change the default settings so that setting are preserved for a group of files. Such as Product Image generation

What kind of settings you want to save. Can you give more details about your task? Thanks

The setting under Appearance, Environment, Render settings, View Settings, Ray Tracing.

Every time I open a file these need to be set again.

So you are asking Presets for each separate file that we will be able to save file setting as preset. Or these setting must be saved with saved file. Idea is voted +1.

Yes - Preset per use case - typically, for a 3D file, there will be a set of views created - e.g. front, back, sides etc.

It would be useful to have a preset for each product type or product view.
