BUG: Can't edit Photo in shape when Dropshadow is activated

When I drag a picture into a shape I usually can doubleclick it afterwards to move it around inside of the mask. With the latest update this isnt possible, when it has an active dropshadow.

When I double click now, it selects the path to edit.

Hi there,

We're so sorry to hear about the trouble. Please share a few more details like:

  1. The version of XD & OS.
  2. Is this happening on a specific file or multiple files?
  3. Please share a small video of the workflow so that we can test this on our end.

We're here to help, just need more information.

Regards

Rishabh

Hey, I wasn't able to replicate it. I can still click and drag the image around the masking shape with a drop shadow applied. See attached video.

Can you include the layers panel in your recording as well? Things are a bit strange on that video you posted, the actions seem to be lagging behind your cursor. To edit the image, you need to double-click inside the shape. If you click on the edge of the shape, you will be editing the path.

Hi Spas,

sorry for the late reply, I didn't see your asnwer.

I tried to replicate your example - and it worked without a problem!

Now, what was different? Your Shape has a border. As soon as I switched of he border of my shape (with drop shadow) the problem with the non selectable picture inside returned.

Can you check if you can reproduce my problem with deactivated border?

Hi, okay, now I managed to reproduce it. Solution: hold Ctrl when double-clicking. This selects the image regardless weather the mask shape has a border with or without a shadow. It should still be filed as a bug though imo.

@Rishabh_Tiwari can you please confirm this is not "intended" and if it's a bug, communicate the issue to the team? 🙂

To reproduce the bug:

1. Create a rectangle.

2. Drag an image on it.

3. Disable the rectangle's border.

4. Add a drop shadow effect.

5. When you double-click inside the rectangle, instead of giving you control of the image, the rectangle converts to a shape and the anchor points become editable. This should only happen if you click on the element's border.

I've attached a video showing the issue.

LATEST

This appeas to be a bug since the latest update.
Worked with a few files last week, no issue, after updating I'm experiencing the same issue.
Turn off drop shadow and the bug goes away (I guess it's scared of the dark)
