Image loss, distortion

Having trouble with image loss using when viewing XD Documents.  Previews fine when tethered for device preview.  Using iPad 12.9" art boards.

Same result with PSD, JPEG and PNG file types. 

However, if I remove the gradient in photoshop, the image with render correctly. I've tried to flatten and merge layers in Photoshop with no success.

Any ideas?

The images which you import in XD have to be in double size.

I've doubled the images, but still the loss is present.  however, if I take out the color gradient, it renders perfectly.  Any thoughts?
