Search / filtering of document assets broken?

When I search for a document asset or set a filter (e.g. "only local assets"), the search result appears correctly but then automatically reverts back to show all assets after a few seconds, i.e. the search string or filter gets removed without me doing anything.

Update: This behaviour was a side effect of this issue which I now was able to fix with the Powershell script provided.
