Unable to move the items to the pasteboard while dragging from artboard in XD

If I have a group of items that I want to move off the artboard by dragging, they do not move from the artboard to the pasteboard. Instead, they will be hidden outside the bounds of the artboard. You cannot view these items by clicking on the artboard title or selecting the artboard. You have to select an item on the artboard, and then the items will appear.

And to help troubleshoot, the entire item/group of items are off the artboard. This seems to mainly be an issue when more than one thing is selected and dragged.

That is actually the designed behaviour. That allow for elements to be not on the artboard, then can be animated into the artboard. The easiest way to transfer elements onto the pasteboard is to select the assets, cut them to the clipboard, then shift focus onto the pasteboard, then paste the assets from the clipboard.

It actually depends on if the items are nested. It the asset is at the top level of the layers, you should be able to drag it. If the asset is nested in a group, then it will remain bound to the artboard. Hence, why i just cut and paste 🙂

hmmm interesting.. was this a recently added feature? I feel like I've dragged items off the artboard for a long time and have not encountered this before.
