Unable to see the rotated elements in Preview Mode in XD 47 on mac

Hey there

I just found a strange bug when I was previewing my design.

I placed a text element onto my artboard (red text in the screenshot). So far so good. The text is showing in the preview mode.

But as soon as I rotated the element to -90 degrees and reopened the preview window the text just disappeard in the preview.

I can reproduce the bug with all kinds of elements like images, shapes etc..

There seems to be a tipping point between 35-40 degrees where the element starts to disappear. When I set it to 36 degrees, some parts of the element disappear while the other part is visible (see image below).

Restarting XD didn't help btw..

Can some of you reproduce this bug?

Best regards

Martin

I just found a workaround.

When I group the rotated element it is visible in the preview.

This helps as a workaround but the problem underneath still exists..

Hi, I tried to replicate the error on some of my files, but everything works fine. Does this problem occur with all files? Are you using the latest version of the software?

Hi

Thank you for your reply.

It also occurs on older version of the file (I have multiple versions of the file like V1, V2, etc.) but now I tried it in a new project and it works fine in the new one.

btw. yes I'm using the latest version (47.0.22.9 x64).

I guess this is a bug related to this one project file only..

So as long as no one else has the same problem its probably a corrupted file or something..

Hi martins3632322,

We are sorry for the trouble. I am also not able to reproduce the issue at my end. I would suggest you to please check the layer panel to see if the text layer might be below anyother obect which might be causing the issue.

Thanks,

Harshika

Hey Harshika

Thank you for your reply.

Since I had this bug I worked in a completely new file and until now I didn't experience the same bug again.
But today the bug reappeard and even my workaround doesn't work anymore (my workaround was to wrap the rotated element in a group which somehow made the rotated element showing up in the preview).

Does anybody else have the same bug?

If not, do you have ideas how I could fix this?

Best regards

Martin

Hey Martin, will you be able to share the problematic .xd file itself here?

Some questions:

1. If you copy the problematic element to a new file, does the bug still appear?

2. Does it happen with all elements in a 'broken' file, or just some of them?

Hey there, thanks for your reply!

I cant upload the xd file somehow..
When I try to upload it here it shows an error message:

The attachment's btc website bug-file.xd content type (application/octet-stream) does not match its file extension and has been removed.

So I uploaded it to my google drive. Here's a share-link:

Answers to your questions:

1. When I copy the element to a new file it works fine.

2. No it only happens with some of the elements. But I cant see a pattern here..

Sorry, forgot to mention the forum doesn't like .xd files for some reason and you should use a different cloud service, which you did 🙂

So I missed that your issue is happening on a Mac. Couldn't reproduce the issue on Windows, the file previews fine for me whatever I rotate. It could be exclusively an issue with macs, or your specific version / hardware configuration.

If you resize the preview window, does anything change?

I assume the elements show up fine on the web prototype opened in the browser?

The fact that you are not able to find a pattern or cause between the broken elements probably means its some random rendering glitch. It would be best to post your full system specs (OS version, CPU / graphics model), so a bug can be filed and investigated by the dev team.
