I am working through an exercise in the Adobe XD Classroom in a Book (2018 edition), Chapter 4, "Reshaping an image". The instructions are to Double-click an image (a jpeg) to enter Path Edit Mode, which is supposed to make the image "isolated from the rest of the document and dragging won't select anything else in the document". I double-click on the image to get the anchor points, but when following the directions to drag a rectangle around the bottom anchor points, it de-selects the image and selects the image next to it (when it was supposed to have been isolated?) I am also unable to select the anchor points individually using Shift-Click. When I click on an anchor point, nothing happens, it doesn't turn blue. I can click-drag an anchor point to resize the image, but I can't select it (turning it blue) by clicking or shift-clicking.
I've tried doing web searches and found the same set of instructions for Path Edit mode and selecting anchors. I've also watched the video from the web version of the Classroom in a Book, and I'm doing the same steps as the video. (Except he can successfully select the bottom anchors by dragging a rectangle).
I've tried Undoing all my steps back to importing the image into the document and trying again--same problem.
I've tried restarting XD--same problem.
I've tried starting over with the book's provided chapter 4 start file and importing the image into that--same problem.
I've tried creating a new document and trying to reshape a different image--same problem.
I've uninstalled/reinstalled XD (without saving preferences)--same problem.
I've contacted Adobe tech support, and after going around in circles for a while was told you can no longer double-click an image and select/edit the anchor points, that you can only use a mask to reshape an image? (Which seems a pretty huge change to make and it doesn't get mentioned in at least the 2018 web edition of Classroom in a Book...or on the Adobe website).
Then with more searching I eventually find a Bug Report on exactly this issue, but the response is:
Yes, with new bitmap fill editing support double-click middle of shape or path to enter bitmap fill edit mode. Double-click on edge of shape to convert it to a path. Double-click on edge of path to enter path edit mode. See gif: https://imgur.com/a/4PNV5t2
And I have no idea what that means or what that image is supposed to represent (since I can't double-click the edge, nor select anchor points and move them like in the image, i can only grab a corner and resize). I can convert an image to a path (Option>Convert to Path), but I still can't select the anchor points or edit them individually (only resize the object).
I've tried searching for XD and "bitmap fill edit mode", and Google shrugs and says "No results found." while Adobe Help tells me "We're sorry, the query you entered has no results."
Help?
Thanks,
Sara
Adobe XD has been updated since that lesson was written. I'm glad you found my post about the new behavior, but it sounds like you didn't quite understand it, so here's more details:
When Rectangle object containing the image is selected, it has a 1px blue border with 8 resize handles and 4 corner radius handles.
Next I double-click in middle of image to edit the bitmap fill. This mode has a 5px light blue border and 8 resize handles. In gif, I drag a corner to change size of image fill without ch

Last, I double click on the edge (or border) of the Rectangle which converts it to a Path object and also enters Path edit mode. In this mode, the 4 anchor points are displayed, and the anchor point on the upper-left is selected (blue). I then mouse-down outside of object and drag to marquee select 2 of the anchor points. Then I click on 1 of the points to drag both to resize Path object.
Does that make sense?

Hi Randy,
I got it to work. I was missing the step to put the image into a shape first. But now I can successfully edit anchor points.
Thanks so much for your help!
