I've tried the solutions here: https://helpx.adobe.com/ca/xd/kb/xd-crashes-when-launched-on-Windows.html
but I couldn't get anything to work. I switched to version 41.1.12 and everything works normally, but versions 42.0.22 and 42.1.22 crash immediately as the app opens. The app doesn't even get as far as showing the Xd logo, the window turns white then black and then sends me to an adobe crash reporting window that I can't interact with and then after a few seconds everything disappears. I need to access shared cloud documents for work, so sticking with the old version is not an option.

We're so sorry to hear about the trouble. Please ensure that you have installed the latest version of Windows updates as in some cases it has been observed that by updating the Windows to the latest version such issues gets resolved. If it still doesn't work, please uninstall XD using the Adobe Cleaner Tool https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/cc-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html and once uninstalled, please re-install XD and let us know if that solves the issue or if you need any further assistance.
