XD is preventing my Illustrator files opening in illustrator - fix?

After downloading Xd all my Ai files suddenly changed from having an illustrator icon to an Xd icon and now will not open in illustrator! It will not even allow me to 'Open with' and then select Illustrator, I have to go into Illustrator and open the file from inside the application which is extremely annoying when, like me you are working with hundreds of different files.

Can you try updating to the latest version of Illustrator (assuming you are not on it), if possible? I remember one of the users being able to solve this issue through this workaround solution. Let us know how it went.

This issue has been fixed internally and should most probably make it to the next update.

Hey, thanks for replying. I was on a fresh install for all apps so updating was not possible. I did however work out that its installing Illustrator before Xd that caused the problem. Installing Illustrator after Xd seemed to solve the issue.
