XD paste appearance malfunction?

New Here ,
Jul 28, 2021 Jul 28, 2021

I have XD version 42.0.22.11 x64, CC sync 4.14.0.17 (the latest) - and am trying to paste the same border and shadow effect from one imported image to another.  When trying to use "Paste Appearance" on a new image, it's actually replacing the new image with the previous image along with the border and shadow.  I've restarted my machine and it's still happening.  I even tried just creating a rectangle and trying to "Past Appearance" on that plain rectangle, but it ends up using that rectangle as a clipping path and pasting the image inside it, along with assigning the border and shadow.

Is anyone else experiencing this same issue?  I've re-reviewed the tutorial video, and I am not doing anything wrong per that video.  Please help!

This is actually how XD is intended to work. Images can be pasted onto shapes to make them an image fill. They don't appear in the fill pop-up, but if you change the fill color you'll see the image disappears. This approach is meant to make it easy to put an image into a shape for cropping, etc.

I can see how you might not always want this behavior if you're trying to copy the shadow/stroke, etc though.
