Assets used over multiple projects

Is it possible to use the assets of a master document but have specific assets for the colors on a separate document?

I have made a master theme with assets such as 'main color'. When working on a new project for another client I would like to work on the same structure and have the freedom to change let's say fonts colors without needing to edit the master asset.

Any suggestions?
