[Design] Difference between mask and mask group?

Are there differences between a mask group (shape + image) and a mask resulted by dragging images into shapes in a repeat grid? Besides being able to see the elements in the layer panel

Hi there,

 

Thanks for reaching out. Yes, there is indeed a subtle difference between the two ways, when you drag and drop an image in a shape, the image automatically fits in that shape by resizing itself as per the size of the shape and position itself centrally. However, when you mask an image with the shape, it only mask that part of the image which is overlapping and we can adjust the mask depending on which part of the image we wish to display.
