Export making images heavier

I'm handing off assets to my developers and have noticed that all of my images are being exported at much higher weights than they were when I dropped them into the designs.

An example:

  1. Uploaded this image into a rectangle (mask) within the design.  File is 113 KB.

2.  When exporting I receive this file and it is cropped which should cut off maybe even 2/3 of the original file size.  Instead the new filesize is 415KB.  That's almost 4x the original size??

Here are the file properties side by side.  You'll notice the width has bumped up by about 100px but the height has been cut down by 2,000!

Do I really have to go in and optimize every single image again??

Also, just a side note, I originally optimized because I noticed that my prototype was extremely slow.  I went through the painstaking task of optimizing every single image in the design (30+ artboards) to try and remedy the slow loads.  Didn't seem to help at all.  Is this why?  Because Adobe is adding weight to every image?

Would appreciate any help or insight!

Hi there,

Sorry to hear about the trouble. I found a similar discussion that explains why this is happening, please refer to this discussion: https://community.adobe.com/t5/adobe-xd/xd-image-export/td-p/11062366?page=1

I also found a UserVoice request on this, I'd request you to please upvote this request: https://adobexd.uservoice.com/forums/353007-adobe-xd-feature-requests/suggestions/34920958-export-or...

Let us know if the above workaround helped you or if you need any further assistance.

Regards

Rishabh

Hey Rishabh,

I actually found that post before I created my post and it does not resolve my issue.  I have been exporting with the selection (designed at 1x).  My issue is that Adobe XD is adding file weight to my images when I export.  The dimensions of the image are fine (although the cropping is certainly annoying).

You can see from the screenshot that I shared that XD actaull drastically cut the dimensions of the photo (through the crop), but still found a way to quadruple the file weight.

The issue is that, as I'm handing this over to the developers, they're building my site with much heavier images than I ever wanted them to have.  So I've been going in and re-optimizing every single image and reuploading to the site which is obviously a waste of time if Adobe XD has a better way of exporting.

Appreciate your help thus far.  Let me know if you have any other questions for me.
