Font display issues

Ive been having this display issue for years now, and it seems to effect random fonts indiscriminately. The issue is, at certain sizes fonts just look really different, like overly jagged because of anti aliasing or certain elements of a character looked thinned down.

This is the Lato font, from google and adobe, and on the top is my version at 20px Regular, and the bottom is from someone elses work.
Im on windows 10 and have the latest XD,  i dont get what this issue is. I feel like its got something to do with anti aliasing but ive tired so many different solutions that dont work. It could be the native display but it seems to work fine with lots of other fonts.

Any suggestions would be great.
