I have this exact same problem. Recent XD files seem to be corrupt. older ones working fine. There's a rush project, and Im stuck with this issue. What is the solution? Is there a generic solution than reboot PC, uninstall/ reinstall/ update CC/ update XD, created a copy to open. Tried it all. Not working 😞

Hi All,
We are sorry to hear you are having trouble with the XD file and getting error 86 on the local document. We would request you to please try the following steps below:
Windows: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j3UwhgNXsvM
Mac: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=95Z107ceDfk
If none of the above solution worked, there is a bug logged for the issue and the team is working on it. You may definitely see improvements in future releases of XD. I will update you as soon as the team fixes the issue.
Thanks,
Harshika

Hi Everyone,
I am getting an issue on opening an old xd document which I had accessed last on 25th Nov 2019. When I try to open that xd file now it says the error shown in the image attached below.
I tried solutions provided in this community forum like - Renaming the file and opening in another computer or laptop, reinstalling the Adobe CC App, etc. Nothing works for me and if I lose this file I need to work hard again for the same project.
I am sharing the xd document as well please let me know if anyone is able to open this in their system as well. If one of you are able to open this xd file then please rename it and do a small change and save it again and share me that version.
Please help me out with the file issue guys. Any kind of help will be appreciated.
Thanks
EDIT: Sorry guys unable to add that xd file here as well. It says some error for the file extension so I am attaching a Dropbox link please download from there and try once.

Hi Ankit,
This is so unfortunate.
We have a bug logged for this issue. It seems to a file specific issue. You have mentioned that you have attached the file for reference and I don't see any. Could you share the file once again so that I can open it and check what the issue is? (I'm afraid you cannot attach a file here since it is public instead you could send that as a private message). Also, could you also let me know which OS and XD version you are using?
Hoping to hear from you.

I also downloaded Ankit's file, tried opening it (v. 25.1.12.7) with exactly the same result.
I ran the Adobe Log Collector and below is the part of the AdobeXD.log mentioning his file.
Hopes this helps Adobe Support to diagnose the problem, and hopefully offer a solution...

Hi Ankit,
Thank you for sharing the file. This is what I would be doing, I've filed a bug for this attaching the file that you shared and assigned it to the concerned person. I will also keep you updated when I receive an update on this. I know this wouldn't help since it is blocking your work but that's the best I could at this point in time. My apologies.
And Peter, thank you for taking time to generate and sharing the logs which would help us identify the issue a little faster.

Hi Gaurav,
We are sorry to hear that you are facing trouble using Adobe XD. A few more details would be super helpful.
If yes, I would suggest renaming the file on other system and save it again.
Let us know if that helps.
Thanks,
Harshika

I can't open an older xd file in version 24.1.22.6 of xd although similar older files in the same location are opening just fine. When I try to open it in xd I get the error 86 saying this is not a valid xd document. I installed the most up to date version of xd and the file I am trying to open was created July 18, 2019.

I do not work for Adobe but I figured out 2 temporary solutions.
I keep my files saved to Dropbox's cloud with Seletive Sync. When I tried to directly open the file, it wouldn't work.
- The first thing I tried was having the other designer at my company open the file and resave it for me. That worked, but was tedious.
- The second thing I did which also worked was download the file to my computer. I could open it from my Downloads folder.
I don't know if either if this will help if your files are saved directly to your computer.
Best of luck!
