I tried scaling some of my images down, so as to improve performance; although, I have 128 Gigs of RAM and plenty of hard-drive space. But this is really destroying my productivity now, having to accommodate for this issue. As a prelude to the problem, I've recently started getting an error message opening files that I've changed on the fly in Photoshop. I edit an image I'm using in After Effects in Photoshop. Most often, when I save the image or export an image to the used file, the image changes automatically in After Effects. I've "never" had error messages related to this process. I've had several since the update before last.
And I can't go back to nice-and-tiddy AE, because my project is in Beta.
Thanks.

It's a bit hard to diagnose the problem without more context: what's the error AE's reporting? Do the layers load/show up properly if you quit and restart AE (ie it's a problem of AE not correctly reloading a file that's changed while it was in the background)? When the problem occurs, have you tried clearing AE's caches (Edit > Purge menu - try just purging memory first, but if that doesn't work, purging all mem+disk may help)? Does reloading the project item help (right-click the image you've edited in AE's Project panel and click Reload)?
