Option to restore or not restore opened comps in After Effects

Premiere has a feature in the preferences where you can tick a checkbox to restore or not restore opened timelines. I'm wondering if something like that would be possible for After Effects. Sometimes when users open other people's projects, it can cause AE to crash or drag performance. This would hopefully help reduce that in some sense.

If I'm understanding you correctly, couldn't you just close comp/timeline panes and then save?
