When trying to run a RAM preview, I'm either getting an error that AE needs at least 2 frames for a preview OR I'm getting a few seconds of preview that just keep looping even without the loop setting on or BOTH... Hellleow? Anyone else running into this?

Hi aarronpina,

Thank you for reporting this issue, what you're describing is definitely not what you should be experiencing with RAM previews. Would you be able to provide some additional information? This would really help us in getting an idea of what is going wrong:

  • What are your system specs? OS, hardware, RAM, GPU, etc.
  • Is this occurring in Beta, release, or both?
  • Did this start with a recent update?

Thank you again for reporting this, I hope we're able to get to bottom of it.

My apologies - I've had so many crash reports, I've forgotten which posts
have automatically received my system info and which haven't.

MacPro 5,1 3.2GHz Quad-core, 20GB Ram, running a Radeon RX 590, 8GB
graphics card on Mojave and Beta.

Have been running AE Beta for several weeks now and don't think this has
been a problem until this week or so.

Appreciate your help.

Hi @aarronpina,

Thank you for all that information. There is a possibility that the 5,1 MacPro running Mojave might be having a GPU resourcing issue; more and more of After Effects' playback has been moving to GPU in recent versions and sometimes a GPU memory shortage will manifest as looping playback or unresponsive playback ( the latter of which might show that "2 frames..." error if you've tried to start playback again. )

Do you see any difference if you disable "Hardware Accelerate Composition, Layer, and Footage Panels" in Preferences > Display?
