I imported my illustrator file like always, composition-retain layer size and all that jazz, but for some reason my illustrator layers have this weird space around them and are behaving like images. I can change things in the illustrator file and it will update in after effects. I can't convert the logo into a shape. I don't know how to fix it. Both apps are up to date and I've tried restarting them both.

Hi,
I got your message. Is the image saved in RGB format? Any rasterized art in the file? I hope we can help you shortly. Sorry for the frustration.
Thanks,
Kevin

The illustrator file I'm trying to import consists of a vector rectangle for the background, custom vector shape, and a text layer. The file is in RGB. I've imported other illustrator files and it worked fine. I'm trying to figure out what's different about this file.

That's strange! Can you share the Illustrator file with me for testing? Feel free to share it via DM if you prefer not to share it publicly.
Looking forward to your response. Moving this thread from Bugs to Discussions for troubleshooting.
Thanks,
Nishu

Thanks for sharing the file. However, I need permission to access the file. I've requested the access.
Looking forward.

I accessed your Illustrator Web file. I saved it as a .Ai file and opened it in After Effects, and it looks like it's working well. The layers came in as vector layers, and I can Create Shapes From Vector Layers. What's your workflow.
Let me know.
Thanks,
Nishu
