Laggy Mouse Cursor and Shape Tools in Composition Panel Despite Good PC

New Here ,

Hi everyone,

I'm experiencing a frustrating issue in After Effects. When I'm working in the Composition panel—say, drawing a shape like a rectangle—the mouse cursor lags behind slightly. It feels delayed and unresponsive, almost like it's dragging. This makes precise work really difficult.

The strange part is that I have a fairly goodPC (Radeon 6800, ryzon 5800x, 32 GB Ram)  so performance shouldn't be an issue. I've already tried reducing the preview resolution and closing other background programs, but the problem persists.

Has anyone experienced something similar? Could it be related to GPU settings, drivers, or something in After Effects preferences?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Hi there @nikola_1763 ,

Could you try the latest version of the After Effects public beta? We pushed a fix recently that might take care of your issue.

Thanks,

Sorry about that, I should have provided instructions in the first place.

From the Creative Cloud desktop app, click the "Apps" button on the left sidebar, then click the "Beta" icon in the top row. You'll be able to install the release version and the public beta alongside each other.

Thanks,

I found it, installed it and it works flawlessly!! Thank you so much! But can you tell me when will the problem get fixed, because it makes it very hard to work with such a disturbance.

Excellent! This fix will be pushed when the 25.3 release comes out. In the meantime, though, it is safe to use the Public Beta, and you can go back and forth between it and the release version with your project. The beta builds are actually the same ones we make every night on the engineering team.

Of course, there can always be bugs in any version, but on a personal note, as a motion designer, I exclusively worked in the public beta for many years before joining the After Effects team. You also get the benefit of trying out new features such as the new shadow system for Spot and Parallel lights we just implemented in the Advanced 3D renderer.
