Layers deleted from timeline but showing in preview?

My program crashed and when I reopened it, most of the layers were gone from the timeline and the ones left behind had renumbered themselves (1-14 - there used to be around 30 layers).

  • When I scrub over the timeline, or play a preview, all the missing layers are still playing as though they are there. I just can't access or edit them.
  • The missing layers weren't the top or bottom few, they seem to be deleted randomly
  • I don't have any plugins installed.

I've googled this problem but none of the solutions seem to apply to my problem.

Any help or advice would be AMAZING (please!)

Hmmm, confusing indeed.

A few things to try:
1. Toggle the "Hide all layers for which the Shy swich is set" switch in the Timeline. The state you're in seems like what enabling this swich will do — if you have individual layers set to be Shy — but it doesn't appear you have the Timeline switch enabled.
2. Open the Composition Flowchart view in the Composition Menu. Do the missing layers appear there?
3. Try importing this project into a new AE project. Does that resolve the issue?
