The issue you're experiencing in After Effects where keyboard inputs seem to double-press can be frustrating. Here are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this problem:

Check for Software Updates:

Ensure that both After Effects and your macOS are up to date. Adobe frequently releases updates that fix bugs and improve performance.
Reset Preferences:

Resetting After Effects preferences can solve many unexpected issues. To reset preferences, hold down Shift + Option + Command (on Mac) while launching After Effects. Confirm when prompted.
Disable Third-Party Plugins:

Sometimes third-party plugins can cause unexpected behavior. Try disabling or removing any third-party plugins to see if the issue persists.
Check Keyboard Shortcuts:

Verify that your keyboard shortcuts haven't been modified or duplicated. You can check and reset keyboard shortcuts in After Effects' preferences under Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts.
