I'm trying to use the Cinema4D render (no cineform integration, only a simple extruded text)

But the second I enable 3D on CINEMA 4D render my preview freezes and won't update for a few minutes untill i get this error.
It happens when '3D Draft' is either enabled or disabled,
In both of the render settings options ('software only' and CUDA)
I tested it on every Ae version from 17.1.4 to 18.2.0 and they all act the same.

CLASSIC 3D render works fine, but the 'Draft 3D' option messes up the preview

I'm using Windows 10 pro, with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti graphics card

The GeForce driver is updated (466.47)

Have you actually tried a different font? The triangulation in your screenshot looks terribly messy and could indicate that the underlying contours are the problem, not the actual geometry generation.

I found the answer in another thread
(The problem was probably due to multiple C4D versions confliction)

https://community.adobe.com/t5/after-effects/after-effects-aegp-plugin-cineware-scenelayer-no-cinema...

This fix worked for me:

* Uninstalled Cinema 4D (and deleted remaining folders just in case...)

* Uninstalled Ae 17.1.4

* Reinstalled Ae 17.1.4

And it works both in the older vrs. (17.1.4) and the new (18.2.0)
