3D tracking export to Cinema 4D isn't working correctly.

Hi,

 

A couple of months ago I used after effects' 3D tracker and exported it to Cinema 4D and everything worked fine, for some reason no it does it only exports the c4d scene without any motion tracking and other the solids are not in view, not sure why this is happening please help! I have attached image after effects settings and a video of the issue in cinema.

Here is a video clip from after effects... The track points are good overall it seems to be a problem exporting cinema 4d.

Camera tracking looks for fixed geometry in a scene, analyzes the parallax, and perspective shifts as the camera moves, then recreates the movement of the camera.

 

In your shot, the camera does not move, there is no perspective shift or change, and there is very little going on in the shot except the movement of the actor's hand. 

 

Your best chance of getting useful tracking data from that shot would be to eliminate all of the tracking markers on the actor's body. You might even want to corner pin track the actor's hand in Mocha AE, expand the surface, then apply Corner Pin tracking to a large solid that has Checkerboard applied so that you get some better tracking data by tracking the pre-composed surface. 

 

You may end up with Pan data only so there is no 3D depth. You'll want to use the same points you used to track the actor's hand and the same frame number to set an origin and ground plane. The Track Solid should be added to the scene using the same trackers on the same frame. When you get that data and you get your reference solid to stick perfectly to the actor's hand it is a good idea to Normalize the track. You can get a script to do that or you can add a 3D null to the scene and set the position to 0, 0, 0. Then you go to the same frame you used to set the origin and ground plane and double-check the position of the reference solid (your track solid 1) and make sure that it is also at 0, 0, 0. To normalize the track select the camera and the track solid and parent them both to the new null you added, then reset the position of the 3D null to comp center. This will move Track Solid 1 to the comp center. 

 

The next thing I would do would be to add a shape layer rectangle to the scene, make the layer 3D, remove the parenting you already set with the 3D null, then shift + parent the 3D rectangle (square or circle) to the Track Solid to snap it to the same position and orientation. Everything should track and look like it is properly attached to the scene. 

 

When that is done you save the project, select the comp in the Project panel, and export the C4D file. 

 

When that is done, you can open C4D or C4D Lite and you should see the shape layer, the AE camera, even the solid, and if C4D is on the same frame you used as your origin and ground plane, the coordinates for the shape layer should be 0, 0, 0.

 

You should be able to take it from there. If all you get from your Camera Tracking you will get a warning when you add your camera and Track Solid 1 in AE, but the pan information should show up in C4D.

 

Let us know if these suggestions help. I do this kind of thing fairly often and have never had any real problems if the shot was compatible with Camera Tracking.

Hi Rick,

 

The thing is I have done a few tests using the same setup up and it didn't have any problems exporting and working in cinema 4d, not sure why it isn't working now... Is it a conflict with the latest update of windows?

Same here! Got a null in AE with keyframes on it, and when I export to C4D that null has no animation.
