8k raw footage in Aftereffects 2022 - no full caching

Working on a extreme fast Windows10 workstation(2x rtx3090, threadrippe 39090, raid NVMe, 128GB)

It's impossible to play 15 seconds of 8k raw footage. Never getting a full preview, CUDA enabled or disabled, no difference.

After that half length the beginning of the green bar is loosing its green color again, never gets fully green. RAM still available...This is a joke

- Where can I download AfterEffects 2020 for comparison?

- Can you recommend better software?

Thanks

Start by checking how much RAM you actually have reserved for AE, though I'm pretty sure that with 800 MB per frame uncompressed you'll run out either way. and in your case it seems you already have effectively thwarted and realtime playback by rotating your footage. Yes, that's how easy it is to get AE to slow to molasses. As for other software - DaVinci, obviously. The free version is limited, but should be sufficient to test for performance issues. Likewise, demo versions of Fusion, Nuke and so on are available from the respective software companies.

Davinci played it 100 times faster, even realtime scrubbing after few seconds 😉 OMG

How is it between AE 2021 and 2020?

Maybe I should load AE 2020 when I read this thread:
