A way to clip layers above a specific layer in the hierarchy?

I need layer A above layer C, layer B above layer A, and layer C above layer B. any way to do this? here's an example from another program:

You can achieve all that with track mattes and/ or using effects liek Set Matte. Of course you may still need duplicate layers and pre-composing for some situations.
