Hi, I'm new to CC and trying to learn how it all fits together. I found a piece of footage on Adobe free stock that I saved to my library. When I open my library in After Effects I see the thumbnail for the footage in my library but when I bring it in to the project I just get a place holder. What am I missing ?

Unless you actually downloaded the full asset, this is expected behavior. Just adding selections to your own library does not automatically download the high-res versions. You need to actually initiate the download and import the actual asset.

Okay cool. But where do I download it from? I couldn't see how on the desktop CC app. Do I have to go to the Adobe stock website again? I chose the footage on my phone and added it to my library. Not sure where to go looking for it now.

A right-click on the assets and choosing the download option or using the menu near to the assets on the web site version should do the trick. If for some reason this doesn't work, check your log-in status in the CC app, your storage/ sync folders and so on.
