Hi Adobe and AE-Community,
I am working on AE 24.1 / Mac OS Ventura / New Mac Studio and since 12 months I can't find any solution to one of these topics. AE behaves weird and seems to be defectively programmed. I do have serious problems to simply just work my job. I am on AE for 16 years now, so I usually find solutions to problems but in this case, I don't know that to do anymore.
I also tried to contact the support, but since 4 weeks nobody answers anymore,
Please help me out before I go mad ;--)
Preview Errors:
1 Preview is often stuck and unable to show anything and there is not even a progress bar,
the only thing possible, to get it working again, is purging, saving, reopening the project.
2 When stopping the Preview, the Preview switches to half size view, or quarter size view,
The Preview is getting smaller in the top left corner and remains like this for a while until it snaps back to the natural view.
3 It often takes ages to get a simple preview of a simple composition. About a minute or more.
4 It seems, when the disc cache is full, AE tilts. So I always have the delete the cache manually. Could this be a problem with permissions? Ventura seems to be quite bad with permissions...
5 New AE seems to have difficulties in displaying a proper preview. At full res, images are shown different when I watch it in 100% or 50% size. Which means, if I want to see if the alpha of a Key is cleaned properly, it shows me, a picture with a small border on 50% and a clean preview on 100%.
Usability Errors:
6 Why do I have to switch on Mask Visibility in every new composition. Mask Visibility seems to turn off automatically, when ever I look away and I have to click on the icon, whenever I want to see the mask.
7 Undo-ing something, no matter how simple, usually takes like 3 seconds and a spinning pinwheel. It is only 3 seconds, but it gets incredibly annoying. I simply don’t undo anymore.
8 AE seems to be laggy when for example I roll the opacity to 0 %. After I release the mouse button and move the cursor away, the number changes back to something like 2 %, if I don’t do it extra slow.
9 There is this error, in which the effect controls of the last composition used, keeps being displayed in the effects panel while I am already working in the next composition. This makes zero sense and is confusing.
Expression Errors:
10 There seem to be serious problems with expressions. When I save projects with expressions, they seem to be altered or parts of the code are missing, expression errors are showing up every time I reopen the file. Then I simply have to go to the composition and click on the layer and the expression errors disappear.
Unusual Errors:
11 Reopening a project doesn’t naturally open the composition, that was opened last time anymore.
12 Every progress bar moves quickly to 99 or 100% and then takes another 40 seconds to finish.
13 If you import a project into another project, AE tilts and can’t preview anything anymore, until I purge, save & restart
14 In the „Force Quit Applications“-Menu of Ventura, After Effects often has the Logo of Google Chrome,
for whatever reasons.
Consistent AE errors / Errors that were always there, and they are never repaired:
15 Audio is laggy in the Preview (as it always was, but seems even a bit worse as it changes a little bit when it loops.)
16 Whenever I want to "save as...", AE asks me where I want to save my file and opens the last directory, that was used before, (for example, the directory, where I imported the last footage). I think, it would be natural, that you just want to save it, where the original project file was.
It is not possible to change the default saving directory. It would be nice, if AE would just save
the file where the file was before, like any other normal program… Like this, I always have to choose the
right path, which leads to mistakes and losses of files.
I appreciate your help and would also consider to change the operating system, downgrading to a functional AE Version or buying a new Mac.
