AE Camera Track Disoriented.

New Here ,
Jul 03, 2023 Jul 03, 2023

Greetings! Im coming across an issue.. maybe an issue lol im in the intermediate stages of camera tracking in AE. I've recently tried utilizing the camera track but when i make the camera, its placed at the top instead of the front view as intended. when I try to export the tracking data to blender or maya using the plug in/ scripts available like AETOBLEND and AESCRIPT the camera and the tracking data are all at a distance far away from the origin. Even after setting my origin, it still gets placed somewhere in the distance far far away ='(.

Would anyone have any tips or suggestions I could utilize to adjust my orientation in AE or the other programs mentioned like Maya and Blender?

Kind Regards,

Student of Fullsail University

You need to set an origin and ground plane before you add any solids and a camera. I always use solids because you can see them and easily Shift + Parent any other kind of 3D layer to snap it to the same position as the solid. If you use the same target to create the Ground Pland and Origin as you use for the Solid and Camera, then the solid will be at 0, 0, 0.

You can add a null, position it at 0, 0, 0, and parent all other 3D layers you have added to the composition to the new null, then Reset the position of the null to comp center, and you will now have a standard Comp Centered camera that you can export to a 3D app. Some 3D apps prefer keeping the starting position at 0, 0, 0, but most of the time, in After Effects, you'll want the starting camera position to be pointing at the comp center.

I hope that makes sense. It should get you started.

Greetings! thank you for your insight and instructions they are very clear and concise. I think i might've missed one of those steps but I tried a few times and this is how 3D camera ends up placed when looking at it from the front view. Screenshot_7.jpg

The camera is placed above the intended ground plane placement.

just updating the thread. I accomplished keep the camera in front view but when importing it into maya or blender my camera is still far off from the origin point.
