AE cannot import a .psd file without crashing

I reinstalled After Effects and Photoshop without any luck on this one. When I go to import my .psd file in after effects, it just locks up on my mac and I get the rainbow wheel spinning forever.  It also says the application is not responding when I force quit the app.  This is an ongoing issue and I would appreciate anyone being able to help on this one.  Thanks!

Turns out I figured this out.  The .psd file was in CMYK format.  After Effects will only import an RGB .psd file.  I had to convert it.  It wasn't easy however, because the color balance and other color adjustment layers looked awful in PhotoShop after I converted it. I improvised and got it (sort of) looking okay in PhotoShop, in RGB mode and After Effects was able to import the .psd file fine after that.

Would be nice if After Effects could handle CMYK .psd files...just sayin'
